Youth Month

Dewey knows dollars

According to studies, it takes an average of 66 days for a new behavior to become a habit. That’s why it’s so important to teach children the benefits of financial education starting at a young age, especially when it comes to saving money. Dewey the Din-O-Saver is here to help.

Earthmover Credit Union continues to thrive under a hybrid work model during 2022 as a matter of choice. Most of our administrative staff continue to work from home and appreciate this flexibility. As a result, productivity and employee morale have never been higher.

Meanwhile, branch activity levels have begun to return to pre-pandemic levels with more members coming in to do transactions face-to-face and to apply for loans in person. Internally, management focused on improving front line training programs and employee onboarding and sought employee feedback through a workplace climate survey. These efforts help us strengthen our employee franchise, improve and strengthen employee morale, reduce turnover and build a more resilient workforce to serve you better.

Earthmover strives to be a good corporate citizen and to give back to our community in many ways. The non-profit organizations in our community continued to face an increased demand for assistance in 2022. Last year our employees held a second workplace Fox Valley United Way campaign; Fox Valley United Way is on the forefront of doing the most good for families facing hardship in our communities. We raised over $7,000 to support the Fox Valley United Way.

As part of our ongoing Community Giveback effort, we were also able to make financial contributions to many local non-profit organizations, such as The Kendall County Community Food Pantry, Community Cares, Mutual Ground, Hesed House, Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry, Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans and many others. In addition, our fundraising efforts supported three community members who were suffering from devastating medical diagnoses.

Because of your support, we had another successful year financially, earning over $4.5 million. Our capital remains an astonishingly healthy 17.83%. Our loans grew over 16% last year, allowing us to serve more members than ever. In October, we unveiled our new brand, “With every move, a step forward.”

And with it a fresh new look. You will have noticed our new look on our debit and credit cards, as well as our letterhead, website and mobile banking application. We will be doing some much-needed remodeling and refreshing of our branch offices in 2023 to bring things up to date there as well. As part of our brand launch, we introduced Cash Back as a reward redemption option on our Visa® Curva Rewards Credit Card. Members have long been requesting a more competitive cash back offering rather than just merchandise and travel. If you haven’t looked at our new program, now is a great time to do so.

2022 was a year of rising interest rates as the Federal Reserve moved several times throughout the year to increase rates to combat inflation. Here at Earthmover Credit Union, we worked hard to continue to maintain competitive loan rates, staying well below other rates in the community. We also announced several very compelling certificate of deposit specials to offer these higher rates to savers.

Early in 2023 we are launching several member satisfaction surveys so that we can get some feedback from members on how we are doing in meeting their needs. We will use this information to make decisions about credit union operations, marketing, rates and product offerings. We are also taking a fresh look at our checking account product in 2023. The revamped product will feature all the benefits you’ve asked for—more member friendly and more competitive. Also, look for our self-service coin machines now available in all of our branch lobbies.

Our volunteer Board of Directors serves at your pleasure, and it is our privilege to do so. We value the trust you place in us to guide the direction of the credit union and welcome any input you may have throughout the year. Thank you.

Popmoney®, the secure, online personal payment service that has allowed our members to send, request and receive money directly from their Earthmover accounts, will no longer be available effective June 30, 2023. Our Popmoney partner has decided to discontinue service, meaning that Popmoney will no longer be accessible.

What this means for you:

  • Payments created on June 30, 2023 prior to 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time will still be processed. No new transactions will be processed after that.
  • For recipients who are registered Popmoney users, payment will be received automatically. Those not registered will receive an email or text with instructions on how to accept payment. If payment is not accepted within 10 days, it will be returned to the sender.
  • If you are a recipient of pending Popmoney payments, please accept or cancel them prior to 6:00 p.m. on June 30, or funds will go back to the sender.
  • If you have recurring or future-dated payments scheduled, we recommend canceling them. Our Bill Pay feature may be helpful for future transactions.

While you will no longer have access to Popmoney, you will be able to review your Popmoney transaction activity in your monthly Earthmover account statement. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Dealing with disasters and tragedies is difficult enough. It’s even harder when the unexpected becomes a financial burden. That’s why we established the Earthgiver’s Charity Corner—to give people who are going through challenging moments a glimmer of hope, knowing that their credit union community is there to care.

Last year we were able to raise $11,444.84 to help during trying times for our members and the community, and we’re not stopping there. We started this year’s fundraising efforts strongly, collecting $2,955.37 for sweet baby girl Ryleigh Faltz, who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia last May. Ryleigh’s family sends their gratitude to those who rallied behind them to provide a donation that really makes a difference in their lives.

Currently, we are selling Fannie May chocolate bars to honor Kendra Kuehlem, who was tragically killed by a train in February 2022. Kendra’s mother Amee started a foundation called Kendra’s Crossing to educate individuals, particularly young people, on railroad safety. The chocolate bars are available for $2 in each of our branches. All proceeds and donations will go toward the foundation’s cause.
